President of the Board of Directors - August 2010

by Phil Wheeler Board of Directors President

Sue and I attended the service today (Sunday July 18) organized by the Social Justice Council GLBTA Task Group.  As part of the service, task group member Kim Edson read the UUA resolution against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation passed at the General Assembly in 1970.  I had no idea we have been at this for 40 years.  We have a long and sometimes proud history of standing on the side of love.

Minister's Notes-July 2010

Summer has arrived.  It's the season many Minnesotans wait for all year long.  It's our reward for the extended winters we endure (or love, depending on your preference!)  Summer is the growing season.  My young Pagoda dogwood tree has shot up 15 inches in the past two weeks alone!

As the newly elected president of the First UU Church of Rochester, I am honored to have received the congregation's vote.  In case we have never met, Sue and I have lived in Rochester since 1976 and started attending the church in 1982 when our children, Will and Andy, were 7 and 4, respectively.

Minister's Notes June 2010

Lessons from the Garden  I was out in my garden this morning, noticing how well the spinach is spouting up.  I did a little watering, enjoyed the lush green of the season, picked off a few yellowing leaves, and wondered when the Bleeding Heart will be going dormant for the summer.  It's been a wonderful spring in the garden, mostly due to the warm weather.  Planning, hard work, patient waiting, the right combination of seed and soil, water and light: it's all needed to make a garden grow.

George was here.

Changed the node grants on blog. Unchecked everything. Intent was to make new blog entries visibile to the author and admins only.  So that the author can work a thing out and save it,then make it visible by setting the grants.

Another path to exlore is the default on the Publish checkbox - but if this grants thing works that might be better because it invites us to choose the visibility when we do decide to share. So, now let's see.

Staff_ mail forwarding set up and books removed from left side navigation

Set  staff_ mail forwarding accounts addresses so we can create staff site accounts to be transferred later to the actual staff members.
e.g. We can set up office as a site account and use it to set up pages and such then transfer it to Theresa later when its ready for production.  Same thing for dre, minister, musico, president, administrator, etc.

Removed book navigation from the left side content block.  Now, need to follow up on getting "My pages", "Work groups" ... etc back into ... left side navigation....

Initial front page port.
